ACC –NJ and Princeton Legal Search Group, LLC deliver, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: STRATEGIES THAT WILL LEAD YOUR INHOUSE LEGAL CAREER TO SUCCESS, MARCH 19th, 2015.

There has been a fundamental organizational shift in corporate America from corporations assuming responsibility for career management to employees, particularly at senior levels, taking ownership, if not directly participating in the development of their career management plans. Navigating one’s in house legal career has unique components and dynamics.

For those in the law firm industry, there used to be a directly definable path to partnership which has

become less predictable. And if one were to look outside the law firm industry what else might they
consider? How does one prepare for this type of career transition?

PLSG was honored to deliver the first in a series of professional development programs created and
delivered for ACC‐NJ members, Navigating Your In House Career to Success on March 19th,  2015. The program was enthusiastically received by the in house counsel attendees.

Here are some of the types of issues discussed when navigating your in house legal career:

Person: How do I know which practice areas, competencies and skills to highlight when marketing
myself internally or externally up to and including new or different projects in my organization? How do I position myself for opportunities when I may not meet all of the requirements for an opening whether inside your existing organization or perhaps outside your organization?

Perspective: What is my reputation and does it factor into managing or navigating my career plan? How do I solicit feedback in a meaningful way? Is there a way to manage your reputation (yes, there is) ensuring that you are on track toward achieving career goals and objectives?

Possibilities: In the ever changing world of work, how do I build or create my own career lattice? (The lattice model will give you many more career options). Should I focus my career plan on job titles, my profession or industry experience and how do I begin to map out a career plan? What resources are available for information and or feedback?
