Princeton Legal Search Group has been engaged on an exclusive basis by a rapidly growing publicly traded life sciences company in New Jersey to lead the search for an experienced privacy and healthcare lawyer. The Assistant General Counsel – Privacy and Healthcare is a key business partner and a senior member of the legal leadership team, reporting directly to the General Counsel. In this role, you will also be designated as the company’s Privacy Officer. The Assistant General Counsel – Privacy and Healthcare is a strategic thought-leader who will work side-by-side with the business and legal leadership teams to support key client groups across the company, including commercial, medical, development, and manufacturing groups.


  • Provide strategic leadership and collaborative support to the company’s business teams in the launch and commercialization of products and product candidates.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with the clinical, commercial and medical affairs leaders to successfully drive commercialization and clinical strategies as the company’s pipeline continues to mature.
  • Be designated as, and function as, the company’s Privacy Officer, and provide advice about applicable data privacy and security laws, such as HIPAA, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and the GDPR.
  • Provide advice regarding cross-border data governance.
  • Provide guidance and strategic counsel on relevant areas of U.S. healthcare law and all applicable FDA regulatory laws, fraud and abuse laws, anti-bribery laws, and the Sunshine Act.
  • Provide advice, education, and training on: healthcare fraud and abuse laws, FDA promotional matters, cGXP compliance, and other laws impacting the development and commercialization of new therapeutic products.
  • Serve as legal advisor for review committees and for product lifecycle and cross-functional product or therapeutic area-focused business teams and initiatives.
  • Provide counsel and support to the company’s Office of Ethics and Compliance.
  • Counsel on appropriate relationships with healthcare professionals, clinics and societies, patients and advocacy organizations.
  • Develop and implement training to internal clients, partners and stakeholders on key policies, procedures, practices and requirements for healthcare and related legal compliance, and on current enforcement trends.
  • Liaise and negotiate with co-promotion partners’ legal counsel to enable and drive successful partnership outcomes.
  • Engage in transaction due diligence and advise on regulatory aspects of transactions.
  • Participate in, lead and/or present to various company committees or other advisory, project or work teams.
  • Drive creative, proactive legal advice to support global business initiatives and strategies.
  • Provide thought-leadership on relevant public policy issues to achieve consistent alignment with the company’s mission
  • Manage external counsel.


  • A J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school (or the equivalent); high degree of academic achievement.
  • Licensed to practice law in one or more U.S. states; either admission to the New Jersey Bar or eligibility for in-house qualification in New Jersey.
  • A minimum of 12 years experience (inclusive of in house experience) advising a global pharmaceutical or biotechnology company with a strong understanding of legal department operations and technology.
  • Strong experience with applicable data privacy and security laws, including HIPAA, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and the GDPR.
  • Strong background in the commercialization of pharmaceutical products in the U.S. and globally.
  • Expertise in U.S. pharmaceutical laws, regulations, and industry standards impacting the commercialization of pharmaceutical products, including the anti-kickback statute, fraud and abuse laws, and Food and Drug Administration laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills and judgment.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, effectively engage in-house clients, and give well organized, thoughtful presentations to members of senior management.
  • Compliance background is a strong plus.
  • Ability to instill trust by gaining the confidence of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity
