Global pharmaceutical company is seeking an experienced employment lawyer to join its dynamic in-house legal team at its US headquarters in Northern New Jersey. The Associate General Counsel, Employment and Litigation will report directly to the US General Counsel and partner with senior leaders in the company on matters pertaining to employment law, policies, and litigation.

Responsibilities:

  • Counsel clients on employment and labor laws in all aspects of the employee life cycle, such as hiring practices, performance management, proactive training of employees (managers and individual contributors), diversity and inclusion initiatives, affirmative action compliance, employee policies, compensation, wage and hour issues, accommodations and leave issues, terminations, organizational restructuring and employee benefits.
  • Member of the internal investigations oversight committee advising on complaint allegations, investigations, and outcomes.
  • Manage litigations and subpoena responses on behalf of the Company, including selection and management of outside counsel for various types of litigations such employment litigations and products liability litigations.
  • Provide employment expertise in connection with due diligence for corporate transactions.
  • Draft and negotiate general business contracts.
  • Proactively identify and implement risk mitigation strategies for potential litigation.
  • Lead offense/defense on litigation and other disputes, including.
  • Responsible for document holds and discovery, including document production management.
  • Manage e-discovery arising from potential/pending claims, litigation, and investigations.
  • Select and manage outside counsel as necessary to handle claims and lawsuits.
  • Develop and manage litigation budget.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and security laws.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, with a minimum of 10 years of experience practicing law. In-house pharmaceutical experience is a plus.
  • Member in good standing with at least one US state bar.
  • Experience with complex litigation in the pharmaceutical industry including class action and multidistrict litigation, jury trials and alternative dispute resolution preferred.
  • Experience handling negotiations, mediations and settlements.
  • Both law firm and in-house experience preferred. Knowledge of products liability, antitrust and US labor and employment law.
  • Forming and managing direct relationships and communication with external specialists and internal clients, including senior leadership.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Ability to work independently, while also being a team player who can successfully contribute to cross functional teams and motivate others.
  • Able to demonstrate a history of successfully resolving challenging legal issues and able to effectively deliver sound and clear legal advice in a business setting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
