Princeton Legal Search Group has been retained on an exclusive basis by Advocare, LLC to lead
the search for an experienced lawyer for the position of Assistant General Counsel. Advocare is
an integrated independent physician owned and governed multi-specialty medical organization
which delivers exceptional care throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It includes
approximately 800 pediatricians, family practice physicians and specialists, along with mid-level
providers, each of whom has strong bonds to the children, adults, families and communities they
serve throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The Assistant General Counsel provides legal support to Advocare, LLC and its Care Centers.
Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel, this position will include
responsibilities ranging from very basic to highly complex. The downstream impact of the
Assistant General Counsels contributions will help Advocares legal team support its
organization’s valued Members, colleagues, patients and business partners. This is an in-house
healthcare regulatory and transactional position, and the appropriate candidate must have that
background and experience.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required.
- Admission to the bar of the State of New Jersey or ability to practice as an in-house
attorney under N.J. Ct. Rule 1:27-2. - 4-6 years’ experience in the practice of regulatory healthcare experience required.
- Strong grasp of Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), Stark Law, HIPAA, HITECH and other
applicable healthcare and privacy laws required. - Broad healthcare transactional experience (physician acquisitions, joint ventures,
strategic partnerships, etc.) and foundational knowledge of healthcare/corporate
operations required. - Physician group practice experience, including knowledge of physician practice
operations, strongly preferred. - Managed care/value-based contracts experience, preferred.
- Collaborative approach and strong customer service orientation.
- Problem solving, teamwork, time-management, and innovative solutions skills.
- Ability to handle unusual, demanding and unrelated tasks. Strong organizational skills.
Proven project leadership and completion. - Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to project ownership, accuracy and
completion on a timely basis. - Strong problem solving, risk analysis and project management skills and the ability to
work with minimal supervision. - Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively listen and communicate at varied
levels, often times with physicians. - Professionally skilled in personal presentation, verbal and written communication.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to transform concepts into clear and effective
contract terms. - High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications – especially Word, Outlook and Excel, and knowledge of Teams.
- Ability to maintain security of corporate proprietary information and confidential
personnel data. - Demonstrated effectiveness operating in complex organizational and regulatory
environment. - Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment with multiple service locations and a broad
set of diverse stakeholders, including physician leaders. - Ability to occasionally travel to Care Centers or Home Office meetings, as needed.
- Experience with contract database program (MediTract) a plus.
Responsibilities - Taking initiative to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization’s legal,
compliance and risk management services. - Providing advice to Members and colleagues on a broad range of business, legal and
regulatory matters. - Fulfilling requests to draft a wide array of agreements and legal correspondence,
including employment, leases, vendor and various other types of agreements. - Reviewing and analyzing various legal documents and service contracts.
- Contributing to the development of standard operating procedures related to purchasing
and contracting with vendors. - Helping to assess risk and compliance related to healthcare regulations and corporate
compliance. - Reviewing and analyzing data regarding compliance-related data (coding/billing audits;
payor issues, potential HIPAA violations, etc.). - Collaborating with business partners to draft forms and policies.
- As required, work with external specialized outside counsel.
- Support Advocare’s Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel in anticipating and
communicating legal and regulatory matters to Advocare leadership.
This position is a hybrid remote position. The successful candidate will be able to mostly
work from home, but from time to time will need to attend meetings in Advocare’s Marlton, NJHome Office as well as attend other offsite meetings and visit Care Centers.
Compensation
- Base salary of up to $250K/yr and a comprehensive benefits package.
- The final salary will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, a
candidate’s qualifications, training, skills, competencies, and experience.
