Princeton Legal Search Group has been retained on an exclusive basis by Legend Biotech Corporation to lead the search for its first General Counsel. Legend Biotech is a publicly traded global clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of novel cell therapies for the treatment of cancer. The FDA granted priority review for a cell (CAR-T) therapy and the PDUFA target action date is set for November 29, 2021. Legend Biotech’s US Headquarters are located in Somerset, New Jersey.

We are seeking an experienced General Counsel with significant experience working for a biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical company. Prior experience working in and guiding a life science company through a product launch is essential. The General Counsel is responsible for leading the legal function on a global basis. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the executive and leadership teams, the General Counsel will serve as the principal legal officer and lead the general legal function and compliance function in a rapidly growing and evolving biotechnology company.  The General Counsel will advise and support organizational growth with a global mindset while balancing business risk. Legend Biotech requires a business-minded senior leader to work across globalization, corporate, securities, intellectual property, commercial, employment, compliance and general legal issues while building a fully integrated global legal department.

Major Responsibilities:

The General Counsel is an important member of the executive team. Specifically, the General Counsel will:

  • Develop functional plans for managing legal matters, including activities to be performed in-house or through outside counsel, to efficiently partner with the business to manage the company’s legal activities and minimize risk for the business
  • Hire, lead and develop high functioning legal professionals to build a world class legal department
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to ensure an effective global ethics and compliance program
  • Advise on legal aspects of the Company’s financing activities and corporate structure considerations, including assessing and advising on current and future business structures and legal entities
  • Structure key business initiatives in a manner that helps to achieve business objectives while at the same time protects legal, regulatory, and tax directives and considerations
  • Manage and direct general significant corporate matters, including corporate organization, securities compliance, general transaction support, license agreements, employment law, regulatory matters, risk management, financing activities, and general contract management


  • JD from an accredited law school is required. Membership in good standing of a State Bar and if not admitted to the New Jersey Bar the ability to secure licensure as in house counsel in accordance with NJ Court Rule 1:27-2.
  • Minimum 15+ years of hands on legal experience, including law firm training and in-house experience of increasing scope and responsibility representing public biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical companies with experience across a number of disciplines including corporate, transactions, governance, securities, compliance, regulatory, employment and management of litigation
  • Significant experience advising senior leaders in the biotechnology industry in a globally focused role preferred
  • Significant experience in law department management, budget management, workforce planning and development, technology solutions and outside counsel management

Compensation will be market competitive consisting of base, bonus and equity.
